Rep. Joe Neguse | Colorado’s 2nd District | 2018
As a 35-year-old son of refugees from Africa, Joe’s family’s story, and deeply held belief that we need people from all walks of life to speak up and engage in our democracy, motivated him to run for Congress. He is the first and only African-American elected to serve in Congress in Colorado history. He serves as a Vice-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, a Vice-Chair of the Medicare-for-All Caucus, and was elected by his peers to be the Freshman Co-Representative to Leadership. Prior to being elected to Congress, Joe served as an attorney, civic leader, and public official who spent his career fighting to expand opportunities for families across Colorado. He was the co-founder of Colorado's largest youth voter registration non-profit, the former leader of Colorado's consumer protection agency, and a former CU Regent for the 2nd Congressional District. Joe serves on the Natural Resources and Judiciary Committees and was also appointed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to serve as one of four Democrats on the prestigious Rules Committee. He also serves as Ranking Member on the House Subcommittee on Federal Lands, which he previously Chaired in the 117th Congress.
