Fred Wellman | Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District

Fred is a West Point graduate, 22-year Army veteran, entrepreneur, and veterans advocate who has spent his career serving his country in combat, in business, and in his community.

Fred and his family grew up in Kirkwood, MO. While his three siblings went to Mizzou, Fred followed his father’s footsteps and applied to West Point. Upon graduating, Fred served as an Army aviator and served a tour in Korea, joining the Army reserve in 2000. He returned to active duty, however, after the events of September 11, 2001 and deployed with the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion of Iraq. Across four combat tours, Fred served as an operations officer, executive officer, and spokesman for senior military leaders, including Generals David Petraeus and Martin Dempsey. He retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel in 2010.

After leaving the military, Fred founded ScoutComms, a veteran-owned company that helped businesses and nonprofit organizations better serve veterans and military families. When COVID-19 overwhelmed New York hospitals, he helped lead the creation and operation of a temporary field hospital for critically-ill patients. He later worked with the International Institute of St. Louis to organize volunteers and distribute supplies to Afghan refugees arriving in Missouri.

Fred holds a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School. Driven by his Missouri upbring and 22 years of service, Fred is running for Congress because families deserve a Representative who will protect their healthcare, lower costs, support veterans, defend democracy, and put public service ahead of political power.
