Quaye Quartey
A Naval Academy graduate and former military intelligence officer, Quartey previously ran for Congress in California’s 27th District. His campaign message focused on national security, science-driven policymaking, and U.S. energy leadership. While his bid was ultimately unsuccessful, his talents have found a home at the famous Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he directs efforts to strengthen U.S. energy independence and national security through cutting-edge research.
Quaye leads one of four nuclear engineering and nonproliferation groups, overseeing nearly 40 nuclear engineers and scientists. His team develops innovative ways to analyze fissile material and to design advanced small modular reactors, a promising engineering solution in the transition to clean energy. At Los Alamos, he manages an impressive annual budget of over 12 million dollars.
