Gina Ortiz Jones | Mayor of San Antonio
An Iraq War veteran, Gina Ortiz Jones served as a U.S. Air Force intelligence officer under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. Gina advised on intelligence operations in Latin America and Africa, and would later advise on economic and national security issues in the Executive Office of the President. In 2018, she set her sights on the House, defeating a Republican incumbent in what was arguably Texas’ most competitive Congressional race that cycle.
Following her time in Congress, President Joe Biden appointed Jones to the role of Under Secretary of the Air force from 2021 to 2023. Now, she serves San Antonio as its 184th Mayor, becoming the city’s first openly lesbian mayor and the first female mayor in Texas to have served in war. She has quickly gotten to work on resolving San Antonio’s budget deficit, enhancing educational access, making infrastructure improvements, and promoting economic growth.
