Marni von Wilpert | California’s 48th Congressional District

Marni von Wilpert is a former member of the Peace Corps, attorney, and San Diego City Council member who has spent her career protecting workers, defending civil rights, and delivering results for local families.

After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Marni served as a Peace Corps volunteer to combat the HIV/AIDs epidemic in Botswana. She worked with local communities to improve public health and disease prevention, inspiring her to pursue a career of public service after her service abroad. 

Marni graduated from Fordham University's school of law, receiving the prestigious Skadden Fellowship, a scholarship for veterans committed to public service. She used her fellowship to establish Mississippi’s first medical legal partnership for people living with HIV and AIDS, providing free legal support to residents facing discrimination in housing, employment, and healthcare. She later clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and represented the federal government as an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board before joining the San Diego City Council. 

Since joining the San Diego City Council in 2020, Marni has focused on public safety, housing affordability, consumer protection, and government accountability. She led the effort to ban untraceable ghost guns, helped create homeownership assistance for public school educators, expanded grocery discount access for families without smartphones, and opposed costly city deals that placed taxpayers at risk.

Marni is a graduate of Scripps Ranch High School, the University of California, Berkeley, and Fordham University School of Law. But more than her credentials or track record, Marni is a public servant committed to delivering tangible results and practical solutions to the families of California's 48th district.
